A law on rooftop solar power generation will be enacted in the next parliamentary session, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said on Saturday.

He made the remarks at a roundtable organised by New Age in Dhaka.

The minister said the challenges facing the power and energy sectors due to the global situation could not be resolved overnight. However, he said efforts were continuing to maintain a tolerable power supply for consumers and ensure stability in the sector despite ongoing global conflicts.

He said the government has been compelled to provide subsidies in necessary areas to manage the energy crisis stemming from the Middle East war and reduce the burden of shortages on people.

Uninterrupted electricity and gas supply is a main responsibility of an elected government and citizens expect normal supplies. Saying that he ensured that the government remains committed to stability under all circumstances.

To address supply shortages, initiatives have also been taken to install more floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs), or floating LNG terminals, in line with demand.
