President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday hailed the country's youth as a vital force in nation-building ahead of National Youth Day today, themed "Skilled Youth Will Build the Nation, Bangladesh for All."

Calling youth the driving force of progress, the PM said over 80 lakh youths received skill training, with 25 lakh self-employed earning Tk 20,000 to Tk 100,000 monthly, alongside Tk 2,861.87 crore in loans by June and 546 National Youth Awardees.

He cited a Tk 500 crore startup fund, a first startup budget, AI-freelancing and IMPACT biogas projects, while urging smart agriculture, packaging, food processing and language training.

Both leaders recalled Ziaur Rahman's youth initiatives, including the 1978 ministry and 1981 department, and Khaleda Zia's 1991 district training centres.

The president termed organised, skilled youth the country's most valuable asset, citing their role in the Language Movement, Liberation War, 1990s and 2024 uprisings, and urged education, healthcare and tech skills to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Noting training in agriculture, handicrafts, technical education, freelancing and AI, he urged youths and private stakeholders to fight drugs, environmental harm and violence against women and children.
