G7 to release 100 million barrels of emergency fuel

G7 countries agreed on Friday to release 100 million barrels of emergency diesel and crude oil reserves. The decision followed pressure from United States President Donald Trump, who previously considered banning American diesel exports to cool rising domestic fuel prices.
The coordinated drawdown will be executed through the International Energy Agency over four months, with substantial diesel volumes scheduled for release within 20 days. The emergency measure aims to prevent economic disruptions across European nations reliant on American supplies.
Confirming the export ban was no longer under consideration, Trump said European nations would make a major global contribution by releasing diesel supplies. He wrote on social media that the distribution process would commence immediately.
Following reports of the diplomatic agreement, United States diesel futures fell by 3.25 per cent to USD 4.49 a gallon. Benchmark European diesel futures simultaneously dropped by 5.75 per cent, according to LSEG data.
Argentina unveils $350,000 investment scheme for foreign citizenship

The Argentine government launched an investment-based citizenship programme on Friday, offering nationality to foreigners investing at least $350,000. The initiative allows applicants to make non-refundable Treasury contributions or purchase specialised $800,000 state bonds.
According to the Economy Ministry, applicants can include spouses for $100,000 and children for $25,000, subject to a 'rigorous evaluation process'. OECD data revealed Argentina attracted $3.134 billion in foreign direct investment in 2025, lagging behind Brazil's $76.877 billion and Mexico's $40.871 billion.
The policy follows a Supreme Court decision upholding Milei's decree that repealed a 15 per cent cap on foreign rural land ownership. Falklands war veterans opposed the shift and said Milei was 'putting the Republic of Argentina up for sale'.
Opposition groups announced demonstrations for next week to protest the land deregulation, aiming to block the measure in parliament. Meanwhile, the government said proceeds from the citizenship scheme will be used to continue strengthening the nation's fiscal and financial position.
Anthropic to invest $100 million to train AI engineers

Anthropic committed $100 million on Friday to establish an artificial intelligence training academy. The programme aims to train 10,000 frontier-deployed engineers across global enterprises by the end of 2027.
Initial participants include engineers from Accenture, Morgan Stanley and Novo Nordisk. Software developers will complete simulated enterprise deployments followed by medical-style residencies under professional instructors, with the first group scheduled to receive official certifications in early 2027.
Anthropic strategy lead Shambhavi Shambhavi said enterprise clients require specialists combining business knowledge with artificial intelligence fluency. Global Head of Business Development Steve Corfield said the Claude Frontier Academy trains external engineers identically to internal staff to establish corporate standards.
The initiative precedes an anticipated initial public offering that could value the firm at $2 trillion later this year. Leaked prospectus filings showed the company generated $4.6 billion in revenue alongside an $8 billion operating loss last year.
ADB to lend $100 million to commercialise Bangladesh agriculture

The Asian Development Bank will provide a $100 million loan to Bangladesh to commercialise agriculture and boost productivity. The project aims to transition smallholders from traditional farming towards market-oriented cultivation of high-value crops.
Economic Relations Division officials said the loan will fund the High-Value Crop Commercialisation and Productivity Improvement Project following evaluation committee clearance. The proposal now awaits Planning Commission approval before submission to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council.
The programme will establish cold-chain facilities, agro-processing units and modern irrigation networks near major production clusters to curb post-harvest losses. It also connects smallholders directly with commercial supermarkets, food processors and exporters to ensure predictable market access.
Supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture, project rollout will begin next fiscal year under the Department of Agricultural Extension. Officials said agricultural diversification remains essential as Bangladesh prepares for graduation from the least-developed-country category.
Restaurant owners demand reforms as sales drop 30 per cent

The Bangladesh Restaurant Owners Association demanded immediate one-stop administrative services and an end to arbitrary financial penalties during a press conference today. The trade body sought urgent government action to resolve the energy crisis.
The association said customer sales dropped by up to 30 per cent as operating costs escalated. Rising prices for essential commodities, gas and electricity reduced business earnings because owners could not raise menu prices proportionately amid weakened consumer purchasing power.
Association Secretary General Ibrahim Hasan placed nine demands, including the withdrawal of the 10 per cent advance income tax and 2 per cent utility source tax. The group said authorities must halt unauthorised harassment and permit commercial beef and mutton imports.
To support long-term development, the platform called for a separate industrial policy and a dedicated institute to train restaurant personnel. The association said international-standard training for chefs remains necessary to build skilled manpower across the country.
